REVIEW : Silverlites - Classic Rock UK
Remotely assembled supergroup gets it together for debut album.
For an album recorded and constructed over several years, and in several locations with the band never all gathered together, The Silverlites’ debut is surprisingly warm and organic.
Which shouldn’t be too surprising given its major players. Initially sparked into life by Black Crowes guitarist Rich Robinson and former Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, the supergroup came together after R.E.M.’s Peter Buck was invited to join, and he brought in Peter Gabriel protégé Joseph Arthur to do vocals.
Largely informed by acoustic guitars and a mood of pensive resignation revolving around affairs of the heart, the 12 tracks on The Silverlites are infused with their creators’ previous modus operandi.
Guitars jangle (Don’t Go, Don’t Stay) and display their Southern roots (When You’re Around) while bathing in amelodicism that flows from the spring of classic cosmic Americana (Inside Your Love).
A decent opening salvo.
