JOSEPH ARTHUR REVEALS REVOLUTIONARY NEW ALBUM 'BAG IS HOT,' A FREE, ONGOING, LIVING RECORD THAT WILL LAST FOREVER
Bag Is Hot’ is a new creation by songwriter and visual artist, Joseph Arthur.  A new way of releasing music, ‘Bag Is Hot’ is liquid an ongoing – a form onto itself.   Brand new music is composed and recorded strictly for this album – really beautiful, unearthly, fully realized music – that interacts with images and artwork to form a living, breathing record.   ‘Bag is Hot’ is free, open-ended, has no rules and is being modernized by Joseph at a rapid pace.

“’Bag Is Hot’…like fresh popcorn for all the kids to grab,” says Joseph.  “Digital hands eating the digital popcorn.  This project is fun and doesn’t have to be precious, but it’s hard not to take it seriously and really work on it.   It’s not, ‘Bag is getting a little lukewarm - Bag is hot!  It’s gonna be like slang soon!”

Lonely Astronaut Records could be releasing the first installment of ‘Bag Is Hot’ sometime before 2009.

“The four-day Tribeca/ASCAP Music Lounge, at the Canal Room on West Broadway, ended as well as it began. I made my way late Friday afternoon across Canal Street, dodging T-shirt and jewelry vendors, to see the last two acts: Joseph Arthur and the recently re-united Sixpence None the Richer.
Arthur, hailed as “one of our most emotionally revealing and talented singer-songwriters” by, um, Vanity Fair, started his set with the evocative “Black Lexus,” and then introduced “an afternoon waltz”—“Even When You’re Blue,” from his next EP, Vagabond Skies. One or two songs later, guitarist Kraig Jarret Johnson, who reminded me of Kevin Bacon, called out to Arthur and percussionist Greg “G. Wiz” Wieczorek, “Let’s keep playing till they kick us off!” which brought a roar of approval. Things began to loosen up then. The couple standing next to me at the bar started improvising their own harmonies to Arthur’s exquisitely crafted melodies, and a guy in the front row knocked over his beer as he leapt up to retrieve Arthur’s harmonica, which had fallen out of its holder and slid downstage. (Arthur, who looks like a Romantic poet and emits a kind of preternatural calm, insisted that the guy keep the harmonica, which he then held aloft like an Olympic medal.) In the last song, “Temporary People,” Arthur sang, “There must be 25 people living in me all the time.” And you might well think so: not only does he have four EPs and a full-length album (with the Lonely Astronauts) coming out soon, he also exhibits his paintings in the Museum of Modern Arthur, his gallery in Brooklyn. Later he told me that when writing, he likes to think about songs “in a painterly way,” because it enables him to be “bolder than I would otherwise be.” - Mary Lyn
